Charting the Highs and Lows

Life Chart for Bipolar Disorder

In managing bipolar disorder, it may be useful to step back and look at the factors that have increased or decreased your symptoms over the years. A daily tracking log helps you to see how you are doing day by day. It helps you make any changes in medication or habits right away. With a yearly chart or one that shows 5 or more years, you can see how bigger events shape the way bipolar disorder affects your life.

We've included 2 life charts to download and use. One is to be used as a 1-year life chart, and the other can be used to track a period of up to 5 years. Follow the instructions on the chart to get a clearer look at highs and lows and periods of balance in your life. Once you have completed the chart, you and your doctor may gain an understanding of the ways in which life events affect bipolar disorder and how you have met the challenges of staying well.

Below are samples of filled-in life charts.
